Title: More Color
" I’ve learned a very important lesson over the years and that is to never put yourself in a box. It seems simple enough but sometimes it can be hard to recognize when you’re doing it. And sometimes, its just a small little box. That’s what makes it so hard to see. Let me tell you about my box. For those of you who have been following me since the beginning, you may remember that I used to never use color. In fact, I used to always say, “I broke up with color.” The truth is, I had this idea that everything I drew needed and only needed to be black and white. Because of this “box” that was self induced, I spent almost two years only drawing in black and white...until I added color to my life. How silly of me. How silly to deny myself free creative pleasure. I can’t even imagine my little characters without color now. But we learn, we live and we grow. So don’t do what I did. If you find yourself doing it, break out of it. It’s actually more fun to experiment and explore your creativity without boundaries. If you want to paint, paint. If you want to color using markers, pencils and crayons, do just that. Don’t let one idea of what you think your supposed to create stop you from creating what’s truly in your head. ( On a side note: I realize now that my paint bucket friend looked a little too much like blood. I probably should have used a different color than red! But hey, at least I’m using color.)"
